INFORMATION ON THE ACTIVITIES OF THE UNESCO ASSOCIATED SCHOOLS INTERNATIONAL PROJECT

The UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet) was initiated by UNESCO in 1953.

At present the Project unites 11,000 organizations in 181 countries. The UNESCO Associated Schools Network Project is one of the most successful and continuing projects of the Organization.

The institutions participating in this international Project represent the following educational levels of the USESCO Member States: preschool level, elementary school, secondary school, vocational technical training, teacher training programs. These educational institutions are guided in their activities by national system of education of the country.

At the same time the project participants in the whole world are joined by four main areas of activities:

  • Dissemination of information on the United Nations and UNESCO,
  • Ecology, environmental protection,
  • The World Cultural and Natural Heritage study,
  • Human rights, the rights of the child, democracy, non-violence.

The associated schools are committed to promotion of UNESCO’s ideals through the implementation of pilot projects in order to better prepare the rising generation for the difficult, ever-changing world.

Teaching and pupils’ staffs taking part in this program have a lot of possibilities for cooperation with the view of elaborating innovative educational approaches, methods and materials, from the local level to the global one.

General objects of the Project in the Russian Federation are:

  • study, implementation and dissemination of the positive experiences in the system of education and training;
  • arrangement of conditions for creative and scientific development of teachers and lecturers of educational institutions being a member of the UNESCO Associated Schools;
  • development of cross-cultural communication and the contribution to strengthening peace;
  • creation of additional possibilities for the development of the UNESCO schools international contacts.
