The conference “People’s deeds – Russia’s greatness” in memory of I.A. Shorin was held in Gorokhovets, Vladimir region, on November 23, 2019.

The conference “People’s deeds – Russia’s greatness” in memory of I.A. Shorin, an industrialist and a patron of art, the founder of the Gorokhovets shipbuilding plant, was held in Gorokhovets, Vladimir region, on November 23, 2019.

This year, a unique from the historical point of view town has hosted that kind of event already for the fourth time. The main themes of the conference were: shipbuilding on the Gorokhovets land; the Old Belief in Gorokhovets district and its influence on formation of the region’s socio-cultural environment; the Shorins, life and fate of the family, descendants of the founder of the Gorokhovets shipbuilding plant; Krasnoe village and its history – architectural monuments and people.

Professor of the UNESCO chair Tatiana P. Vinogradova presented her report at the conference that took place in the house of folk arts – a unique wooden tower-chamber constructed in the modernist style of the early XX century.

The conference attracted attention of historians, local lore experts, museum workers and common citizens of the town. In the “Shorins’ House” there met direct descendants of Ivan Aleksandrovich, of steamship-owner Nikolaev born in Gorokhovets district, and the great-granddaughter of the Kryukovs, the ship-owners having their steamship line on the Oka and Volga at Nizhny Novgorod.
